MALI
FOUNDATION
GODREJ & BOYCE
Godrej & Boyce has conducted free life-skill classes for two weeks, training twenty women at a time.
VOLUNTEERS
We regularly have volunteers from Wipro, IBM and GE giving their time to train the women and girls. We also periodically invite healthcare organisations and eminent doctors to visit the shelter and give their advice to our women and girls.
Additionally, there are many others who have donated money, artifacts and time to aid us in empowering women.
ROTARY
The Rotary Club of Cantonment, Bangalore, has set up tailoring and embroidery classes for the women at Mali. At the end of their six-month course, students are awarded certificates recognised by the Government of Karnataka. Students that successfully complete the course are also put in touch with shops and boutiques to obtain gainful employment.
VIDYA
The Mali Foundation has offered VIDYA (Integrated Development of Youth and Adults) the free use of the rooms and the terrace area on the first floor at its Shelter to conduct educational and livelihood programmes, along with computer classes for the empowerment of socio-economically underprivileged women. All activities on the premises are carried out in concurrence with each other and with the prior knowledge and consent of both Mali and VIDYA. The syllabus is fixed and taught by volunteers and by paid staff.
The Mali Foundation's forthcoming projects with VIDYA include:
a. Setting-up organic farming on the premises.
b. Setting-up cooking classes and driving lessons for women.
APSA
APSA (Association for Promoting Social Action) is a child-centred, community development organisation. APSA works in 75 slums in 24 of the 10 wards in Bangalore.
The Mali Foundation collaborates regularly with APSA. APSA sends girls between the ages of 18-20 years for vocational training and later takes care of the job placement for the qualified ones. Young women and girls who have graduated from the APSA centre at Nammane and have begun working, live at the Mali Shelter, where they are provided safety, food and shelter. Here, they acquire skills to live independently, overcome their exploitative past and to build their future. They also receive inputs in personal financial management, and in emotional and conflict resolution.
PARTNERS
SYNERGY
